When we welcomed our first baby, Lynn, into the world, we thought we were equipped with everything we’d need in order to be the best parents possible. With a mother who is a pharmacist specializing in pediatrics, our Lynn was sure to be healthy and well. We were excited and ready to care for our newborn.
Despite doing our consumer research and purchasing products from well-known and highly-rated brands, our sweet Lynn developed dermatitis. She cried and itched as we tried every recommended product, regardless of the price, to soothe her especially sensitive, irritated skin. We felt frustrated and helpless.
As she grew older, the itching symptoms from her dermatitis diminished, but she then developed asthma. Trips to the hospital with a wheezing baby became a regular occurrence. After extensive medical research and several scary, sleepless nights, we learned that atopic dermatitis can contribute to asthma, which made her sensitive skin a much more serious problem to tackle.
In the end, we endured a long and arduous process to find the most suitable ingredients in handmade formulas that gave our baby relief.
Our focus on the optimal management of atopic dermatitis for our baby required a multi-pronged approach. It involved the elimination of exacerbating factors, restoration of her skin’s barrier function, and hydration of her sensitive skin. We also poured ourselves into learning as much as possible about her condition and the ingredients found in the products we had tried, both the successful ones and those that didn’t work. We even looked into pharmacologic treatment of skin inflammation.
We learned that epidermal barrier dysfunction is recognized as a key factor causing atopic dermatitis. Since the skin is the largest organ of the human body, it is critical to protect infants, who have an increased risk of atopic dermatitis. Scientists have found that the enhancement of an effective skin barrier, with daily use of a suitable moisturizer in the first months of life, can help decrease flare ups. Studies have also shown that the use of moisturizers can help minimize severity of irritation and itching, reducing the need for topical corticosteroids.
Our findings also revealed that many products on the market include ingredients that can contribute to skin irritations for babies. We were shocked at this discovery. It moved us to seek out and test an enormous list of ingredients before developing our Belynn Naturals® moisturizing formulas.
Even though Belynn Naturals® are formulated for babies with sensitive skin, the company promotes a plant-based skincare line for children and adults with sensitive skin. We use ingredients that are free of active essential oils and skin irritants. They are paraben-free, alcohol-free, fragrance free, sulfate-free, cruelty-free and nontoxic per the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Our products are acquired through sustainable environments that practice better business methods and quality control standards.
One of the major differences between Belynn cosmetics and some of our competitors is that we do not rely on a manufacturing lab to label our products with pre-stocked, standard formulas. Nor do we have chemists developing formulas based on ideas alone. The founder of Belynn Naturals®, Dr. Annie Foumbi Fomene, is a mother, an expert in her field of pediatric pharmacotherapy, and the one that led the entire research and development team to create golden formulas known as Belynn Naturals®. We are a family-owned business, managed by Dr. Fomene’s husband, Vidal Fomene. Our mission is to bring other parents safe, healthy solutions for everyday skincare for their babies.
We are proud to present products that are manufactured in the USA, and free of the active ingredients that increased our baby’s sensitivity. Choosing Belynn Naturals® means you are using pure, 100% natural products that are full of ingredients that will nourish and help strengthen your baby’s essential barrier function.
